PostHog

Product analytics, session replay, feature flags and experimentation in one platform.

Overview

PostHog combines event-based product analytics with session replay, feature management and experimentation. Teams can investigate user behavior and connect quantitative analysis with individual sessions without stitching together separate reporting tools. The cloud service offers recurring free allowances for several products. These are usage quotas, not unlimited access: the event, recording and request limits below apply independently. The profile documents the standard cloud free tier, excluding temporary startup credits and optional paid packages.

What happens at the limit?

Without a credit card, usage stops at the free-tier limits. Adding a card enables pay-as-you-go usage: the recurring free allowance remains, and usage above it is charged at the applicable product rate. Billing limits are available for most products; consult the current pricing calculator before enabling paid usage.

Limitations & things to check

  • Free usage

    Free quotas are finite

Each product has its own unit and allowance. Unlimited members does not mean unlimited events, recordings or projects.

  • Paid overage

    Overage needs a billing decision

Free usage stops at the quota without a card. With pay-as-you-go enabled, usage above the free allowance is billed.

  • Paid feature

    Advanced platform controls cost extra

SSO, audit logs, custom roles and project permissions are offered through paid platform packages. The exact package needed should be checked against current pricing.

  • Enterprise terms

    Enterprise code has separate terms

The repository's ee/ directory is governed by the PostHog Enterprise licence, not the MIT licence used for the core.

    Official source
  • Hosting

Self-hosting is a separate operating choice

The documented self-hosted deployment is unsupported, requires your own infrastructure and does not grant access to all paid cloud features.
